St Mary’s year 5/6 boy’s football team participated in the Basingstoke School’s Football Tournament, held at the War Memorial Park on Tuesday 26^th September. The afternoon started really well, the beautiful sunshine ensured massive support from parents and family members. Our performance was superb during the group stage, winning all four matches without conceding a single goal. Safely into the quarter finals, we then played King’s Furlong, whose goalie put on an outstanding performance saving all of our attempts at goal. A close fought game ensued throughout; unfortunately, one powerful, accurate shot from the opposing team deceived our players and the keeper. The final whistle blew with a result of 1-0 against us, this did not deter our team spirit and sportsmanship, of which the children should all be proud. I thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon and can honestly say the St Mary’s team were a pleasure and a credit to our school.
