St Mary’s year 5/6 boy’s football team participated in the Basingstoke School’s Football Tournament, held at the War Memorial Park on Tuesday 26th September. The afternoon started really well, the beautiful sunshine ensured massive support from parents and family members. Our performance was superb during the group stage, winning all four matches without conceding a single goal. Safely into the quarter finals, we then played King’s Furlong, whose goalie put on an outstanding performance saving all of our attempts at goal. A close fought game ensued throughout; unfortunately, one powerful, accurate shot from the opposing team deceived our players and the keeper. The final whistle blew with a result of 1-0 against us, this did not deter our team spirit and sportsmanship, of which the children should all be proud. I thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon and can honestly say the St Mary’s team were a pleasure and a credit to our school.
