Girls' Seven a-side Fopotball Tournament

On the 22nd September the year 5/6 girls' football team...

The St Mary's girls' football team competed in the Basingstoke schools seven a-side tournament against four other teams at Mays Bounty. The team had previously only practised together, and after a few last minute tips on throwing and positioning, went out and won their first game against local rivals Great Binfields 2-0. They drew against Castle Hill but lost to St John’s and Oakley who eventually won the tournament. The St Mary's team did very well working together and preventing goal scoring opportunities from the opposition with some great tackles. There were signs of improvement throughout the competition and a finish of equal third was a good result on the day. Everyone appeared to enjoy the games and there was a good atmosphere of sportsmanship from everyone.

Thank you to our parents and grandparents who supported us throughout the afternoon with travel and encouragement to the team.
