The Basingstoke U11 individual Table Tennis competition...

The Basingstoke U11 individual Table Tennis competition took place on 5th January at Aldworth School.  There were a record number of competitors with 41 boys and 31 girls taking part from 7 different Basingstoke schools, including 5 Y6 boys and 6 Y6 girls from St Mary’s.  The children were divided into groups of 4, with the top 2 from each group going through to contend the Cup whilst the remaining players from each group performed in a separate knock-out competition.

During the group stages, all the St Mary’s children played exceptionally well with enthusiasm and sportsmanship, winning many games and supporting each other throughout.  The majority then went forward to contend the Cup, with some exceptionally close games played along the way.  After many nail biting matches, the boy’s final was between St Mary’s & St John’s and the girl’s final was between St Mary’s and Castle Hill.  I am pleased to say that St Mary’s won both finals. A huge well done to Lewis and Jessica, who have now qualified for the County Final which will take place in Southampton on 27th January.  Special mention must also go to Emilia and Chris who both finished third and Lily who finished 1st in the separate knock-out competition.

As is always the case, we are very proud of all the children who took part who are always so sporting and enthusiastic and a real credit to St Mary’s and we wish Lewis and Jessica the very best of luck at the County Final.  Thank you also to all those parents who stayed and supported.
