Church of England Junior School

Armistice Day 2014

As we do every year at St Mary’s, we marked Remembrance Day with a special assembly attended by all pupils and staff.  This year was extra special as we thought about what happened 100 years ago.  The whole school joined thousands of people in Trafalgar Square and at the Cenotaph via an internet video link.

During the week of Remembrance Day all pupils visited the war memorial at St Mary’s Church, this significant year we thought about and remembered those in our community who lost their lives during the war. Of special significance to our school was the loss of captain george Wellsted who was a pupil at our school and whose mother was a teacher at the time. The news of his death is recorded in our school log book.

Every child in the school made a poppy to mark Remembrance Day .  These were used to create this whole school display.
