Basingstoke Schools Boys’ Football Finals

Best ever result

15 schools, and approximately 150 children, took part in the Basingstoke Boys’ Football Finals held at May’s Bounty. Our first match against King’s Furlong resulted in a 1-0 win; we then progressed to win our next 2 games against Fairfields and Merton. This saw us safely through to the ¼ finals where we met Bishopswood, winning 1-0 and ensuring our place in the semi-finals. We then came up against Oakley Boys, a team which we had never beaten before. A tough match which went into extra time; this spurred St Mary’s on to score 2 goals, sending us into the finals. The last game of the day was against Castle Hill; the boys fought hard against a strong team. The final whistle blew with a 0-0 draw so extra time was played. Castle Hill proved the stronger team in the final few minutes scoring 2 goals. The afternoon was a superb achievement for St Mary’s as this is the furthest we have ever reached in the Basingstoke Schools’ Finals. Well done to all of our boys and the parents who supported us throughout. Our success was secured by Mr Bell, who managed the team for the afternoon.
