Church of England Junior School

Cover your ears! Taiko drummers hit St Mary's!

Year 4 have enjoyed particiapting in Taiko drumming workshops led by Mark Alcock.

Taiko are a broad range of Japanese percussion instruments. In Japanese the term refers to any kind of drum, but outside Japan, it is used to refer to any of the various Japanese drums called wadaiko (Japanese drums).

Today Year 4 have filled the school with the beats of the Taiko!  All of the children have thoroughly enjoyed the sessions run my Mark Alcock of Taiko Meantime.  Mark Alcock, leader of Taiko Meantime, studied and performed Taiko drumming with the Tennon Daiko drummers of Wakayama prefecture in Southern Japan. Year 4 learn the rhythms and routines quickly and enjoyed performing to other classes. School will seem very quiet tomorrow!
