Brilliant Basketball

After just one week of practising with our new basketball posts...

After just one week of practising with our new basketball posts, ten children represented St Mary’s at The Vyne School in the qualifying rounds for the upcoming Hampshire Games. Our first match was against Merton, narrowly winning by 4 goals to 2 ; the children had a quick turnaround to meet Rucstall, which was also a very close game winning by 2 goals to 0.

Each school played each other twice; with our confidence building, we met Merton for the second time and won with an improved score of 5 – 1. The children realized their chances of representing Basingstoke in the Hampshire Games were looking good, so they entered into the last match against Rucstall full of determination and self-belief amassing a total of 7 goals and conceding none.

Well done to everyone for their superb effort, exceptional behaviour and sportsmanship. A special thank you must go to Mr Kelly, for coaching the team, and ensuring our place in the Hampshire Games, representing Basingstoke, on Thursday 30th June in Aldershot.
