Mini Tennis Competition

St Mary's Year 4 tennis team perform terrifically!

This year’s Mini Tennis tournament took place on 21st April at Totally Tennis.  There were 16 teams taking part from 8 schools, with some very talented players participating.  Each team comprised of 2 boys and 2 girls.  The teams were initially split into 4 groups of 4, with all teams in each group playing each other.  The top 2 from each group would then go on to a knock-out tournament in the afternoon to compete for a place in the grand final!  After a nail biting wait we learnt that all the St Mary’s teams were through to the knock-outs which was very exciting but meant the games would be getting a lot tougher!  Unfortunately, after some closely fought matches, our B and C teams were narrowly beaten in the quarter finals with the A team making in through to the semi-finals. The semi final against The Priory was so close we could barely watch with each player being incredibly well matched to their opponent – it literally came down to the last point being played to decide who went through to the final and unfortunately on this occasion we just missed out – but easily won the 3rd/4th place play off against Sherborne St John which was some consolation. The Priory were the eventual winners of the whole tournament so this shows just how close we were to clinching victory!   All the children were very well behaved and supportive of each other so a big well done to Dan, Zach, Adipta, George, Thomas, Maxance, Shriya, Lily, Nyasa, Sarina, Megan & Jessica.
