Church of England Junior School

Careers Week June 2010

Careers education provides young people with the knowledge and skills they need to selfmanage their learning and to make informed choices.

Careers education provides young people with the knowledge and skills they need to selfmanage their learning and to make informed choices.

It is motivating and it raises aspirations — by providing clear goals and by encouraging young people to participate in learning and to attain qualifications that reflect their potential.

Every Child Matters, the Government’s shared programme to improve the outcomes for all children and young people, states that pupils need to learn the qualities and skills needed for adult working life in order for them to achieve economic well being. As part of our Citizenship and Healthy Schools curriculum we will be holding a careers week from 7 June – 11 June 2010.

During this week children will have the opportunity to speak to and hear from members of our community about their jobs and careers. Children will be encouraged to think about their future aspirations and help them make links with their primary education and future career paths.

Children will experience writing job applications, sharing job descriptions, sit and hold mock interviews and write their own CV’s!

It is only Tuesday and already the children are engrossed in our careers week.  So far Year 6 have had a visit from Eli Lilly and Year 5 have met Brian, a former Air Steward for British Airways.

Year 4 have enjoyed talks from a local Firefighter, Vet, Nurse and today they became engineers dismantling and rebuilding motors and other machinery!

We are looking forward to welcoming other visitors to our school later in the week including a coach from Reading F.C, a representative from Mars chocolate and a former RAF pilot.
