Year 4 Trip to Southampton Art Gallery

Year 4 Trip to Southampton Art Gallery

On Tuesday 23rd May, Year 4 made an exciting visit to Southampton Art Gallery. We learnt how to use wire to create 3D figures, looking at proportion and how to build up structures from different widths of wire. We worked alongside an artist to learn different techniques.

We also had a guided tour of some of the pieces of art at the gallery. We continued to use our skills of inference and deduction that we have worked on at school, looking for meanings in pictures and sculptures. We also looked closely at the hidden meanings of artwork by Sir Edward Coley Burn – Jones depicting the story of Perseus and Medusa.

Some of the children’s favourite pieces included work by a local artist, Caroline Hall, who creates colour landscapes from local areas.
