Hockey League

St Mary's Hockey Team make their debut in the Basingstoke Schools Hockey League!

St Mary’s recently formed year 4/5 mixed hockey team and participated in the first round of the Basingstoke School’s Hockey League, held at Down Grange Sports Centre on Thursday 16th November.

The first game was a 0-0 draw versus North Waltham B, a positive result from a team that had not played together before.

In the second game, we played a strong Hook B side. Hook scored first, but St Mary’s responded well with a great first goal for the team coming from Callum. Unfortunately, St Mary’s were unable to capitalise on this and Hook managed to score a second, with the final result ending with a 2-1 loss.

Game three was versus Kempshott B. We played well and opened up the scoring with a goal from Adam. The second half of the game we soaked up a lot of pressure from the opposition and unfortunately conceded a goal in the last minute, resulting in our second draw of the evening.

By the final game, we had become much more used to each other’s style of play and spent most of the game in the oppositions half of the pitch, with goals from Adam and Quin. We celebrated a 2-0 win!

We look forward to our next round of the league taking place on the 7th December.

Thank you to all parents who supported us throughout this event, three of which were current/ ex hockey players!
