Church of England Junior School

Book Week 2018

Picture books take over St Mary's!

Book Week was an extremely exciting event at St. Mary’s this year. Every class took on a different picture book to read throughout the week; this book became the focus of most of the learning and this led to some wonderful English work but also some very exciting art and PSHE learning across the school. At first, the children (particularly those in the upper school) were slightly shocked to see that ‘easy’ picture books would be used. However, once they realised how much depth there was to the selection of books chosen, they were able to see how much quality learning can take place with the right picture book. Many of the books explored complex moral and ethical dilemmas and the children were thoroughly engaged in tackling these issues. There will certainly be more picture books being used across St. Mary’s during the rest of the year…
