Year 3/4 Mini Tennis - 8th May 2018

Mini Tennis Success

This year’s Mini Tennis tournament took place on 8th May at Totally Tennis.  There were 15 teams taking part from 8 schools, with some very talented players participating.  Each team comprised of 2 boys and 2 girls.  The teams were initially split into 3 groups of 5, with all teams in each group playing each other.  The top performing teams from the morning would then go on to a knock-out tournament in the afternoon to compete for a place in the grand final!  After a nail biting wait we learnt that 2 of the St Mary’s teams were through to the knock-outs (with the other team only just missing out) which was very exciting but meant the games would be getting a lot tougher!  After some closely fought matches in the quarter finals, both teams made it through to the semi-finals. Unfortunately, the B team were narrowly beaten in the semi-final by Sherborne St John, securing 4th place overall.  The other semi-final against St John’s was really close with 1 of our players being truly stretched by having to play the county champion!  Fortunately it was a team game with all players upping their game to fight for every point!  After a tense wait we learnt that the A team had made it through to the final against Sherborne St John which I am pleased to say we won convincingly with all 4 players not only winning a gold medal and another trophy for the school but also securing a place at the Hampshire Games on 21st June!  All the children were a pleasure to spend the day with, not only impressing with their sporting ability, but also showing real team spirit and support to each other throughout the day.  Congratulations and a huge well done to Neel, Dihiyah, Connor, Jamie, Nicolas, Daniel, Mataya, Hannah, Belle, Amelia, Liah & Lotty.  Thanks also to all the parents who helped and supported throughout the day.
