Basketball team through to the Hampshire Games

A year 5/6 team took part in a basketball competition on the 2nd April...

Eight talented pupils represented St Mary's at the Year 5 & 6 Schools Basketball Competition on 2nd April at the Vyne School. The squad was split into two teams of four, each playing one half of each game in a round robin tournament against four other school teams.

The opening game saw St Mary's beat Kempshott A 14-4, with everyone contributing to a good opening performance. After some advice and slight tactical changes from coaches the mixed boys and girls team played well again against North Waltham, winning 14-6. The team then found their rhythm and with slight tweaks before the third game, delivered a great team performance with Ryan and Emma scoring freely and all players assisting with great shots, ball play and defending. The score was 26-0 against North Waltham which placed them in a great position for their final game which they won 16-4 against St John's.

St Mary's had a great team spirit in every game, shook hands with the opposition after all games and were pleased to win another sporting trophy for the school, which qualifies them for the Hampshire Games finals at Aldershot in June. Runners up were North Waltham with Kempshott A third.
