Indoor Athletics Success!

Success at the first round of the Basingstoke Schools Sportshall Athletics Competition!

Twelve children from St Mary’s represented Basingstoke in the first round of the Basingstoke Schools Sportshall Athletics Competition on Tuesday 21st January at The Costello School. A popular event saw a total of 96 children take part in our cluster alone.

There were six track and six field events for both the girls and boys teams. While some children were taking part on the track, the others were completing their field events. Amelia, Mataya, Liah and Freddie excelled achieving a 1st place in at least one of their events. We also amassed six 2nd places with superb performances from Hannah, James, Liah, Connor, our boys 4x1 relay in which Lewis ran an impressive 2nd leg and the boys 2x2 relay. Callum had a consistent afternoon completing a hat-trick with 3rd place in 3 lengths, chest push and triple jump whilst Michael also came 3rd in 2 lengths and javelin. In true St Mary’s spirit our girls 4x1 relay fought tough competition to take 4th position overall with Channelle running the 2nd leg. Alexis put in a splendid performance with excellent results in all three of her events.

St Mary’s ended the afternoon in 1st place with outstanding performances - both boys and girls scored the most points overall, 50 points ahead of 2nd place.

This was a fantastic event which the children and parents thoroughly enjoyed, all supporting and cheering each other.

A huge thank you to our parents for providing lifts and helping throughout the afternoon making the event an immense success.
