Girls' Football

Two teams took part in the Basingstoke competition...

On Thursday 10th February St Mary’s took two teams to the Basingstoke Year 5 & 6 girls’ football competition at the War Memorial park. With 11 other schools competing, the girls showed great spirit and determination throughout representing St Mary’s exceptionally well. Both teams (A & B) got off to a great start drawing their first games in their groups, although both teams suffered a defeat in the second game. It came down to the third and final game for both teams in order to make it through the group stages. Team B came up against Team B unfortunately lost out to Oakley after a hard fought game which placed Team B third in their group. Team A won their game also placing them third in their group. In the end it came down to points between the two sides to see who went through and Team A had more points than B putting them through to the quarter-finals where they would play Oakley. Team B after all their amazing effort got to play a consolation game against Rucstall.  Team A played with a lot of passion and determination in the quarter-finals, but came just short as Oakley came away with the win, which sent both our teams home. All the girls from played exceptionally well and represented St Mary’s brilliantly. Thank you to all the parents and Mr Gibbs who helped during the event.Oakley, while team A played Marnel.
