On 20th November St. Mary’s took a team from year 4 to the Basingstoke Rugby Football Club for a mini 7 a side tournament. The team consisted of Maisie, Ella, Jessie, Leo, Bailey, Finn, Flynn, Finley, Elden, Jacob and Gabriel. The weather remained dry although rather cold and damp but the children started their first ever match together in superb form and fought a hard game narrowly losing to Rucstall. Two more games followed with the children gaining in experience and skill and with the support from our parents on the side line performed two tightly run matches which gave everyone the chance to enjoy their rugby and remain positive despite losing by a small margin. Well done to Flynn Palmer who was rewarded the Player of the Tournament Trophy for his consistency throughout the games. Thank you to our parents for providing transport and assisting with coaching prior to matches and of course to our wonderful children who displayed team work in the true spirit of “It’s not always the winning but the taking part.”
