Julia Donaldson, who was the children’s laureate between 2011 and 2013, has a wonderful talent for writing.  Couple this with the illustrations by Axel Scheffler and you have a winning combination of picture books.  The books incorporate repetition, rhyme and occasional alliteration too.  If you’ve ever read one to your own child or grandchild you will know how the rhyme becomes wonderfully infectious and can start occurring in your own speech!
