Lego Day!
Year 3 work together – by Finley, Louis, Millie and Libbie (& Mr Rundle)
There is a photo gallery at the bottom of the page to see the events of the day.
On Monday 15th October 2012 year 3 had a special visitor. All of us worked together as a group to make a Lego city. We called it Rainbow City after we voted on a name.
Sheila, from young town planners, came and told us how to make a Lego house. First we needed a base called a foundation. Then we were told how to stack the bricks so that they were strong. In addition we needed two doors and two windows for each property. Some people made big houses with three windows in them. So we started to stack the bricks and then once we had got to the second layer of bricks we could add in the windows. When we had built 5 layers we had to make the eaves for the roof tiles to go on. Some people made their houses much bigger, we even had a sky scraper which was 5 floors tall!
When we had made our individual houses we got to take them to the streets of the city and we could choose where to put them. Those who finished first were able to help stick together the street design for Rainbow city. When we had finished with the white and grey bricks as well as the red tiles we could add on some coloured bricks to the top of the roof to make the building look better and make it look like a pharmacy, or a school, or a McDonald’s, a B&B and even a factory with a very tall tower!
Finally we got to add loads of decorations like trees, flowers and fences. When everyone had added their properties we stood back and enjoyed the view of Rainbow city. Then we had a picture of each person with their house. Sadly at the end we had to break them up ready for the afternoon groups.
“I learnt today how to respect people when working with them.” Louis
“Today I learnt that playing with Lego can be fun!” Millie
“I learnt that working together makes it more fun.” Finley
“The best thing today was making a lego city with my friends and my classmates too.” Libbie
In the afternoon we did some more team building games outside in the playground and learnt how to persevere, collaborate, work as a team, respect our team mates, be determined, trust your team mates, work hard with others and try your hardest and finally listen to each other. It was brilliant. Soon we will add in some of our posters about team working when they are finished!
