Year 6 celebrate World Book Day!
To celebrate World Book Day, Year Six used a variety of high-quality picture books to create poetry and narrative fiction. In doing so, the children challenged themselves to explore a range of vocabulary and grammatical techniques and to use these to express emotion in a conceptual and original way.
As an aid to their planning, the pupils utilised role play, mind mapping and group discussion to generate ideas and to identify with the characters about whom they were writing (some of the photographs attached here illustrate this).
Their eventual writing demonstrated how the ambiguity of picture books can provide freedom of thought and encourage self-confidence in the children to express themselves in personal terms.
