Basingstoke Schools Quadkids Athletics

Athletes join netball and basketball teams at the Hampshire Games

We entered 2 teams into the Basingstoke Schools Quadkids competition held at The Vyne on Tuesday 2nd May. A total of 72 children took part in the event from 8 schools across the borough.

The boys started the afternoon with the 75 metre sprints, whilst the girls went off to participate in either the howler throw or long jump. Zane won the sprint overall with Bailey finishing 3rd. Harriet and Maddie were 2nd and 3rd respectively in the long jump. Maddie and Katerina also managed an exceptional howler throw finishing equal 3rd.

The girls then competed in the sprints with Naomi 4th, Katerina and Jessie 5th equal and Harriet and Maddie 6th equal. Zane threw a massive howler throw of 39.04 metres to win the event with Theo in 2nd place with a throw of 31.18 metres and Flynn managed a creditable 4th place. Theo won the long jump with a leap of 2.05 metres with Leo, Zane and Bailey all jumping 1.80 to finish 3rd equal.

The day ended with the mixed relay teams St Mary’s A team consisting of Katerina, Jessie, Maddie, Harriet, Flynn, Bailey, Oliver and Zane won the race in 68.10 seconds, whilst the B team with Naomi, Jessica, Evie, Emilia, William, Jacob, Leo and Theo were placed 3rd with a time of 72.60 seconds.

A superb afternoon of competitive sport for all of our pupils, with the A team amassing a total of 1,661 points, 167 points ahead of 2nd place and the B team finishing 3rd with a total of 1,397 points.

This means that our A Team will now join our netball and basketball teams , representing Basingstoke and Deane, at the Hampshire Games.
