National Table Tennis Finals

A fantastic achievement!

With outstanding winning performances from Kaya, Lucy, Shriya and Sophie in the Basingstoke Schools and County finals Table Tennis, the girls competed in the Schools National Finals - the first time our school had reached such a high standard of table tennis.

All were extremely nervous during the morning practice as they realised this was certainly a high level of competition and they would have to up their games to stand a chance. Despite this, the girls performed well drawing their first match 4 – 4.  The next two games were extremely tough resulting in 2 losses. In the final match the girls put on a strong performance and bounced back to win the match 7 – 1. The girls were proud of their performance and it was great for them to finish on a high. We are really proud of their 3rd place overall.

One of our parents spoke to the other team captains who were amazed we had progressed to the regional finals, practicing with limited resources, as we have no full size tables. Most of the teams had 5 full size tables and some even had outdoor tables.

This was a great achievement for the school and the girls supported each other very well especially when the chips were down.

This shows just how resilient St Mary’s pupils are!
