Roman Day, Year 3

What have the Romans ever done for us?

Year 3 plunged into the world of the Romans,  were they ruthless conquerors or remarkable innovators? The brilliant Openbox Theatre Company returned to school and instantly transported the children back nearly two thousand years. In no time at all, our hall became the mist‑shrouded island of Britannia, ready to be explored, invaded and conquered.

Throughout the workshop, the children worked together using drama, problem-solving and plenty of imagination. They discovered what life was really like in Roman times: from luxurious baths to ambitious invasions, and even the realities of a Roman banquet – complete with slaves! Laughter, surprise and a fair bit of gasping filled the room.

One of the most memorable moments came when the children transformed into disciplined Roman soldiers. Shields up, formations tight, and marching perfected – they were ready for battle. Their enthusiasm was infectious.

It was a fantastic day of learning, creativity and historical adventure.
