St Mary’s made a superb start to the indoor athletics season when 12 pupils competed in the first round of the Basingstoke Schools Sportshall Athletics competition. We achieved top performances from Lily and Charlie in speed bounce, Sophie long jump, Isabel chest push, Leela 2 lengths sprint, Eddie long jump and 3 lengths sprint, Dan triple jump and javelin.

We also achieved top results in the 4 x 1 girls relay with professional baton change overs from Lucy, Leela and both Isabels. Alex, Archy, Zach and Dan also performed well in their 4 x 1 with 2^nd position.

In the 2 x 2 relays Eddie and Charlie came 1^st equal with two boys from Cliddesden School whilst Lily and Sophie finished in 2^nd place in the girls 2 x 2 relay.

The children were extremely proud of their performances and congratulated each other when the final results were announced with St Mary’s winning the whole event 98 points ahead of 2^nd place.
