Holocaust Memorial Day

On January 27th 2020 we joined 37,000 children...

On January 27th 2020 we joined 37,000 children in the Portsmouth and Winchester dioceses to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz

We have looked at this in terms of ‘God created all people in his own image’ and ‘treat others as you would wish to be treated. Everyone in our school has drawn a picture of themselves to produce the flame which is the logo for the Holocaust Memorial Trust and symbolises us Standing Together against injustice.

Attached below is the powerpoint we used for this morning's act of worship. This contains the prayer that we all said together and below is a link to the video that the diocese produced, which includes some of our children saying the prayer.

We have also spoken to all of the children about not researching this subject on their own at home but rather to do this with an adult.

As well as looking back we also want to look forward and plans are underway for each class to produce their own peace pole as a lasting memory. Could you and your family also make a peace pole for your garden? Spread the word.
