Year 6 create Bio Plastic!
As part of our learning in Science Week, Year 6 looked at the journey of plastic and the effects that it is having on our environment.
We looked at finding alternatives to the plastic we currently have now. We created bio plastic to see if this was suitable; we found that it was not as durable as the plastic we use now, but were really excited to see how this could be developed in the future to reduce the amount of plastic sitting in landfill.
Here is the recipe we used if you'd like to try it at home!
1.5 tablespoons of cornflour
1 teaspoon of vinegar
1 teaspoon of glycerine
5 tablespoons of water
Food colouring (optional)
Mix all the ingredients together and heat on a low heat until the mixture turns sticky and translucent.
Pour onto some greaseproof paper and spread to the required thickness.
Once cooled, cut into shapes with a cookie cutter.
Leave to dry for 4-5 days.
