Basingstoke Schools' Cross Country
On Tuesday 4th February 40 children represented St Mary’s at the Basingstoke School’s cross country event at Down Grange. First up were the year 3/4 girls, running in a field of about 140 children. Ester ran incredibly well to win the race overall and receive a medal. The 3/4 boys were next, in a very tough group. They all ran their best and the cheering from the sidelines spurred them on. The year 5/6 girls had to run a longer distance, and Alexis came home in the top ten meaning she was selected to represent the District in the next leg of the competition. Finally,
it was the 5/6 boys’ turn. They all ran superbly with an impressive three making the District team – James, Callum and Connor. All of the St Mary’s runners finished their races strongly and gave 100% effort in their performances. Well done to all the competitors who represented the school brilliantly – displaying perseverance and respect during their races and also whilst cheering on the other teams. Thank you to all the parents who came and supported the children
