Year 3 had an exciting and memorable visit from Iron Age Matt, who helped us travel back in time to the Iron Age.
Matt brought history to life by sharing real artefacts and fascinating stories about how people lived thousands of years ago. He showed the children everyday objects made from stone, bone and metal, and explained how Iron Age people used them for cooking, hunting, farming and making clothes.
The children learnt that Iron Age people did not have shops or electricity and had to make everything themselves. Matt showed animal skins and explained how they were used for warmth and clothing. He also talked about Iron Age weapons and tools, helping the children understand how people protected themselves and hunted for food. One of the most exciting artefacts was a torc, which the children learnt was a special piece of jewellery worn to show status and importance.
Through hands-on activities, drama and questions, the children discovered what daily life was like in an Iron Age roundhouse and how communities worked together. The visit helped the children deepen their understanding of history and sparked lots of curiosity, excitement and excellent questions. It was a fantastic day of learning that Year 3 will remember for a long time.
