Basingstoke and Deane Sports Awards Friday 3rd March 2017

St Mary’s were nominated as a finalist for the prestigious Basingstoke & Deane Sports Awards held at the Apollo Hotel, against stiff competition from other local schools.

Due to our outstanding performance in a variety of sports events in 2016, we are delighted to announce that we won the trophy for the best “Sporting School of the Year.”

It was very evident that the sport in our school is exceptional, due to the fact that there were numerous ex St Mary’s pupils at the awards receiving trophies.

Miss Shore accepted the trophy on our behalf, and spoke to the audience of 155 competitors, coaches, club officials and families, of the superb staff team effort throughout the whole school which makes us so successful, along with the 100% support and dedication of our pupils and families.

Ex pupils at the awards were: Owen Richardson (Winner of the Senior Men), Jacob Caine (Winner of the Junior Men), Sibi Kumara (Runner up in the Junior Men), Anaya Patel, Isabel Pinder and Cameron Coveney.

Catriona, Cameron and Charlie Coveney received a Special Family Award for their dedication and commitment, competing most weekends, with constant training during the weeks throughout 2016 and displaying outstanding performances in the Biathle as a family unit.

A huge well done to all staff and students involved, especially those who give up their time voluntarily.
