Power League Football Triumph

St Mary’s entered 2 teams into the Year 5/6 Power League Schools Football Tournament.

Both teams performed exceptionally well to reach the last 16, out of 23 teams in total.

The B team fought a hard battle in the knock out section, which finished with a draw against Hurstbourne Tarrant, forcing us into extra time. The teams were very closely matched in ability, hence the score remained 1-1 at the end of extra time. This enforced the “Sudden Death Rule,” where penalties had to be taken. With pressure building our B team narrowly missed out on reaching the ¼ finals losing 3-2. The boys should be proud of their achievement and the year 5 boys will have the opportunity to play again next year.

The A team set off with a fantastic start winning their group section without a loss. They then went into the “Knock out Stage” for the top 16 teams. Their 1st match was against Park View B winning an astounding 8-0. This put them through to the ¼ finals with a close match against Marnel, with another victory of 2-0. Full of self-belief the boys entered into the semis against Hurstbourne Tarrant which also finished successfully with a 6-0 win. The team were in high spirits for the final match of the day against Kempshott and with 3 goals from Zach, 2 from Ollie and 2 from Zane we won the tournament with a 7-1 win.

Both teams displayed superb effort, skill and determination throughout the afternoon and should be delighted with their achievements.

A huge thank you to all of our supporters and especially the dads who helped managed the teams to ensure our success.
