Year 6 Poetry Slam!

Year 6 impress during the first ever St Mary's Poetry Slam!

Year 6 were delighted to welcome parents into our school to experience our first Poetry Slam! We've been exploring poetry in our learning over the last few weeks. Firstly, we read and wrote many poems during our learning linked to Remembrance. All of the children were inspired by creative performance poetry that we started exploring on our school's Open Day. In response, our children created their own poetry and looked at classical poetry that they were excited to learn, memorise and perform themselves.

All of this learning culminated in the Poetry Slam. We had around 40 different adults join us over the course of the morning to listen to us perform our poetry. The children were delighted with the turnout and we would like to thank everyone that attended during the morning session. We hope that you also enjoyed our wonderful smooth jazz that was played during the intervals - we felt it made our poetry morning more authentic! All of the children felt valued and appreciated being able to share their work with many others. It took great courage and determination to stand up and perform but our Year 6s did so with style!
