Welcome to the Spiritual Life page at St Mary’s CofE Voluntary Aided Junior School.

What is Spirituality at St Mary's? Spirituality is rooted in the school’s Christian ethos and vision of One Family providing for life in all its fullness – achieving more together. Underpinned by Jesus’ words in John 10:10 ("I have come that they may have life and have it to the full"). St Mary's is about helping every individual flourish academically, socially, emotionally and spiritually to become the best version of themselves.

To help our school community explore and understand spirituality, we use four key dimensions: Mirrors, Windows, Doors and Candles.

    Mirrors (Self)

Mirrors invite us to look inwards. They represent opportunities for self-reflection, personal growth and discovering our unique identity. Through Mirror moments, children reflect on their own feelings, choices and creative gifts.

    Windows (Others)

Windows allow us to look outwards at the world and people around us. They prompt us to look closely at the lives and experiences of others and learn from them. Window moments encourage us to build strong, caring relationships as One Family.

    Doors (World)

Doors represent stepping out into the wider world to make a difference. They are about  taking responsibility for God’s creation and engaging courageously with global issues. Door moments empower children to step into new experiences with confidence and purpose.

    Candles (Beyond)

Candles symbolise moments of wonder, prayer and beyond. Candle moments offer quiet times for stillness, hope and spiritual reflection within our school day.
