St Mary's CofE Voluntary Aided
Junior School

  • Year 6

In Year 6, pupils experience a rich and varied curriculum that supports both academic achievement and personal development as they prepare for the transition to secondary school. Core subjects such as English, Maths, and Science are taught with a focus on deepening understanding, encouraging critical thinking and applying knowledge in meaningful ways. Pupils explore a wide range of texts, tackle complex mathematical concepts and engage in hands-on scientific investigations. Foundation subjects—including History, Geography, Art, Design & Technology, Computing, French and PE are delivered through creative and cross-curricular approaches that promote curiosity and collaboration. Religious Education plays an important role in helping pupils explore different faiths, reflect on moral and philosophical questions, and develop respect for diverse beliefs and values. PHSE enables  students to reflect on relationships and teaching them about friendships, healthy eating and about their body. Throughout the year, children are encouraged to take on leadership roles, participate in enrichment activities and build the confidence and resilience needed for the next stage of their learning journey.
